Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar stated that petrol and diesel prices will remain steady. In light of worldwide rates, the decision to keep petroleum product prices steady was made.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Minister of Defence, Khawaja Asif, stated that petrol prices will be decreased further before the fiscal year 2023-24. He stated that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had no objections to targeted subsidies.
On May 31, the federal government slashed petrol, diesel and other petroleum products prices for 15 days. He announced an Rs8 per litre drop in petrol prices, an Rs5 reduction in diesel prices, and an Rs5 reduction in light diesel prices for the next 15 days.
Petrol has been cut from 270 to Rs262 per litre, diesel from 258 to 253 per litre, and light diesel from 152 to 147 per litre. The paraffin price, which remains unchanged at Rs164.70 per litre, has not changed. The new petroleum prices went into effect on June 1.
It was Pakistan’s third straight decrease in petroleum product prices since April.
