The federal government has announced a significant increase in passport fees, with citizens now required to pay an additional 50 percent amount to obtain the essential travel document.
The Directorate General Immigration and Passports issued a notification detailing the new fee structure, which ranges from Rs4500 to Rs27,000 for different types of passports.
Here is a breakdown of the new passport fees:
Passport Type | Validity | Standard Processing Fee | Urgent Processing Fee |
---|---|---|---|
36-page | 5 years | Rs4,500 | Rs7,500 |
36-page | 10 years | Rs6,700 | Rs11,200 |
72-page | 5 years | Rs8,200 | Rs13,500 |

These fee revisions mark a substantial increase from the previous rates. Citizens obtaining a 36-page passport for 5 years, for example, will now pay Rs4,500 as compared to the previous fee of Rs3,000. Similarly, the urgent processing fee for the same passport type has increased from Rs5,000 to Rs7,500.
For a 10-year validity 36-page passport, the fee has been adjusted to Rs6,700, up from Rs4,500, with the urgent processing fee now set at Rs11,200.
Those opting for a 72-page passport will now pay Rs8,200 for a 5-year validity period and Rs13,500 for urgent processing. For a 10-year validity 72-page passport, the fees stand at Rs12,400 and Rs20,200 for standard and urgent processing, respectively.
Citizens applying for a 100-page passport will now pay Rs9,000 for a 5-year validity period and Rs18,000 for urgent processing. The fees for a 10-year validity 100-page passport are Rs13,500 for standard processing and Rs27,000 for urgent processing.
These adjustments in passport fees aim to cover administrative costs and improve passport services for citizens.
