The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has launched a free food initiative in Islamabad’s federal government schools. Initially, about 40 primary schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory will receive mid-day meals this week, with children in 20 schools across the Tarnol and Nelore sectors benefitting in the first rollout.
Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Secretary of Education, announced the program, which includes not only free meals but also other enhancements for primary schools under the Federal Directorate of Education’s oversight. During a media briefing, Secretary Wani noted that the lunch program, supported by both government funds and the Allah Waley Trust, aims to expand to all primary schools within two months.
This initiative comes in response to a recent report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), which highlighted that over 2.14 million children in Pakistan are currently facing acute malnutrition.
