Local fishermen from Gwadar, a coastal city in Balochistan, accidentally caught a rare “sunfish.”
On Friday, Gwader fishermen were astounded by what they accidentally caught in their nets. The fisherman managed to catch “Sun Fish,” a rare species of fish.
According to experts, the 2-tonne sunfish is frequently discovered in the deep oceans. Earlier in July 2021, a fisherman off the coast of Jiwani, Balochistan, struck it lucky when he caught a rare fish weighing 26 kilograms.
Details indicate that the fish, known as Sowa in the area, sold for Rs676,000 at an auction held at a nearby fish market. This is the third such catch in a week’s time. Earlier, on May 30, a rare Sowa (croaker) fish caught off the coast of Jiwani was sold for a hefty sum of Rs8.6 million.
This is the third catch of this kind in the past week. A rare Sowa (croaker) fish that was found off the Jiwani coast on May 30 had previously been sold for a premium price of Rs8.6 million.
48 kilograms of uncommon croaker fish were consumed. Fisherman Waheed Baloch, a native of Gwadar’s Pishukan village and a resident of Koh-e-Sar Bazar, has become an overnight billionaire, according to Deputy Director of Fisheries Ahmed Nadeem.
Experts in aquatic life claim that the Sowa fish visits Jiwani’s shores and nearby waters throughout the summer to breed. Large croaker fish were in high demand in both Europe and China. Prior to that catch, a fisherman called Abdul Haq had landed a croaker fish that was sold for Rs780,000.
