Lahore Qalandars, the defending champions, will make the first selection in the HBL Pakistan Super League 2023 Player Draft. Representatives from the six teams took part in a random drawing on Monday at the Pakistan Cricket Board offices to determine the Pick Order.
The second and third picks will go to the champions of the 2019 competition, the Quetta Gladiators, and the 2021 competition, the Multan Sultans. Karachi Kings, the 2020 champions, and Islamabad United, the reigning champions in 2016 and 2018, will make the fourth and fifth selections, respectively.
The sixth pick will be made by Peshawar Zalmi, who prevailed in the inaugural HBL PSL final to be held in Pakistan in 2017. A unique statistical tool was used to determine the outcomes of the next 17 rounds.
Usman Wahla, PSL 8 Tournament Director: “We have set small milestones for our flagship event, and Pick Order for HBL PSL 2023 was one of the targets. This has set the tone for this year’s Player Draft as the teams will now have absolute clarity on their turn and how they will make the best use of their chances to pick players for one of the most grueling and fiercely-contested leagues.
“The player registration window for foreign players is also open, and we are getting positive feedback, which is evidence of how highly the HBL PSL is regarded and how much the best players want to play in it.
We are working incredibly hard to not only produce this event in accordance with its size and renown but also offer a few ideas to make the event more spectator-friendly. The event will be held at four venues the next year: Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.
