The passage of big vehicles has been prohibited by the Sindh government in an effort to enhance Karachi’s traffic flow.
Wednesday’s meeting was presided over by Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Sohail Rajput, who directed DIG Traffic Sindh to firmly implement the ban on large vehicles in order to improve traffic in Karachi.
He gave DIG Traffic the order to start cracking down on cars with locally tinted glass, sirens, and flashy license plates. Tight enforcement of the heavy vehicle restriction was another instruction given by the chief secretary to the relevant personnel.
He asked the traffic police officers to seize vehicles having fancy number plates besides taking strict action against the violators.
He further stated to remove all types of obstacles and illegal parking from the service road of University Road and the imposition of fines over traffic violations. DIG Traffic informed the chief secretary in the briefing session that at least 15,704 drivers were arrested for traffic violations this year, whereas, the fitness certificate of 3,421 vehicles was also suspended.
