The Asia Cup 2023 cricket tournament started off to an outstanding start for Pakistan on Wednesday, with a thumping victory against Nepal in the first match at Multan Cricket Stadium.
However, another issue arose as a result of the tournament’s official jerseys, which had no indication of the host country’s name.
All of the competing nations debuted their Asia Cup jerseys before of the event, but one curious element that fans noted was the omission of Pakistan’s name under the Asia Cup badge.
This caused a dispute, with fans questioning why Pakistan’s name was not written on the shirts.
It should be stated that this year’s tournament is being co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka due to India’s refusal to the rival country.
However, supporters recalled that Sri Lanka’s name appeared on Asia Cup jerseys last year, despite the fact that the event was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to political and economic problems in the host country.
The rationale for the exception has finally been revealed by sources close to the authorities involved.
They said that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which organizes the Asia Cup each year, chose last year during the tournament’s 15th edition in the UAE not to include the host country’s name along with the year on the jersey.
The reason for this was the ACC’s be concerned about the variability of the jerseys, as some of the Asia Cup 2022 shirts had Sri Lanka while others simply had the year printed on them.
According to the sources, the ACC chose not to include the name of the host country or the year of the tournament on the jerseys to maintain uniformity and that the jerseys reach more people.
According to them, this year’s Asia Cup shirts just include the tournament’s logo.
