PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was previously manhandled and re-arrested outside Adiala Jail, asserted in a Rawalpindi court on Thursday that he endured both “physical and mental torture” during his recent time in prison.
Qureshi disclosed this information while providing his statement in a hearing related to a police request for his three-day physical remand at the Rawalpindi Judicial Complex. The court has reserved its verdict.
Qureshi had been released from Adiala Jail on Wednesday after the Supreme Court granted him post-arrest bail in a case related to ciphers. However, upon his release, he faced an altercation with Punjab police, who pushed him away from the prison premises.
Subsequently, it was revealed that Qureshi had been arrested in connection with a case concerning the attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on May 9. The former foreign minister was reportedly mistreated while initially held at the Cantt police station.
Presently, a video shared by PTI on social media depicts Qureshi being escorted by policemen in an armored police van on his way to the court hearing.
Addressing the media before the hearing, Meher Bano Qureshi, the daughter of PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, voiced dissatisfaction with the security arrangements outside the court. She remarked, “It appears as if they are treating him like a terrorist.”
“No one is permitted to enter the Judicial Complex,” Meher Bano emphasized, expressing disappointment with the police’s conduct. Regarding the arrest the day before, she remarked that the scenes had turned Pakistan into a “joke” in a neighboring country.
Meher Bano added, “Even our neighboring country would be questioning the treatment of a former foreign minister.”
