Islamabad, Pakistan – The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) has announced an increase in the minimum passing marks for intermediate exams from 33 to 40, effective from the next academic year.
At a press conference, IBCC Executive Director Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah detailed the new changes, which are part of a broader educational reform initiative. He noted that a sub-committee at the Karachi Secondary Education Board reviewed various proposals before reaching the decision to raise the passing marks.
In addition to the higher passing marks, Dr. Mallah revealed that students will also be awarded grace marks as part of the reforms. Furthermore, the commission will shift from an open-choice exam format to a closed-choice format, providing students with 100 percent options in their exams.
“The increase in passing marks from 33 to 40 will apply starting from the upcoming academic year,” Dr. Mallah said. “This change aims to enhance academic standards and improve overall student performance.”
