Imran Khan, the PTI chairman, and the former prime minister has been disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the Toshakhana reference.
On September 19, a five-member ECP panel led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja reserved judgment in the Toshakhana reference brought against former prime minister Imran Khan.
The ECP sent notifications to the parties, including the former prime minister in the reference, before the decision was announced.
Safety Measures
- Before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced its decision in the Toshakhana reference, security was stepped up at the organization.
- To guarantee the protection of the ECP, Punjab Rangers, FC, and a sizable police contingent had been sent out.
- Tear gas shells were given to the army, and the Election Commission of Pakistan has forbidden the entry of unrelated people.
Last hearing
During the last hearing of the case, Barrister Ali Zafar in his arguments before the ECP said the disqualification under Article 62-1-F is the prerogative of the courts not the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Has a court found Khan to be not Sadiq and Ameen?, Attorney Ali Zafar enquired. The disqualification case under Article 62-1-F of the constitution, according to Imran Khan’s attorney, cannot be considered by the ECP since it is not a court but rather a commission.
After hearing the PTI attorney’s arguments, the ECP postponed making a decision in the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan.
