The Federal Minister of Science and Technology, Shibli Faraz, said that the recently developed Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which needed 90 days to construct, will analyze election outcomes in 15 seconds.
The minister added that the federal government has been striving for electoral changes to make voting more equitable and honest, as well as to strengthen democratization.
“We encourage the opposition parties to send their experts to evaluate the EVMs,” Faraz said, adding that rejecting the machines without first checking them is unacceptable.
He asserted that, because it is the modern era, Pakistan must adjust to the changing world and advance in its use of innovation.
“Approximately 1.8 million votes are squandered by counting them traditionally,” Faraz said, “but not a single vote would be squandered if EVMs were used.”
Moreover, Faraz claimed that the EVMs will keep a log of voters and will protect voters’ confidentiality.
