Inam Butt, a Pakistani wrestler, has won gold in the World Beach Wrestling Series in Rome, Italy.
Inam, from Gujranwala, was participating in the 90 kilos weight class, and he defeated the Ukrainian wrestler in the final by a score of 3-0 to win the gold medal.
Before the final, Inam defeated Turkey’s Omer Faruk Karadeniz 2-1 in the quarter-finals. He then defeated Romanian grappler Mihai Nicolae Palaghia 3-0 in the semi-finals to set up the final match with Oleksii.
The wrestler also posted a video message on Twitter in which he credited his triumph to the Pakistan Wrestling Federation and thanked [IPC Minister] Fehmida Mirza and DG Asif Zaman from the Pakistan Sports Board for their assistance in obtaining visas.
“I received the visa and the opportunity to play here because of their efforts,” Inam continued.
Inam expressed his thoughts on sports in the country, stating that all sports groups should collaborate in order for sportsmen to win gold for the country.
“I dedicate this gold to Pakistani sports institutions,” he wrote in a tweet.
This is not the first time Inam has won a medal for his country. In 2017 and 2018, he won gold in the World Beach Wrestling Championships in Turkey. In 2019, he earned a gold medal in the inaugural World Beach Games in Doha, as well as gold medals in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games and the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Inam earned gold in the 2016 Vietnam Asian Beach Games, silver at the 2014 Phuket Asian Beach Games, and gold at the 2016 and 2019 South Asian Games.
