TechnoPolis project has been set up in Lahore where International universities will be set up their campuses soon.
During the meeting, matters regarding higher education came under discussion. The provincial minister informed the chief minister about the measures taken by the government in the higher education sector.
The chief minister said that the former government did not take any practical step except announcing projects. “The Lahore Knowledge Park project is an evident proof of their incompetence as this project has been in the files only for 10 years,” he noted, adding that the PTI government had started work on the Lahore TechnoPolis project being set up under the vision of ‘Excellence in Knowledge and Enterprise’.
The chief minister informed the delegation that international universities would establish their campuses in Lahore TechnoPolis. He further stated modern education was the right of every child and the current government was returning that right to them. “Due to the educational friendly policies of the government, 21 universities have been included in the international and Asian rankings. The government is going to introduce the concept of smart university in the province,” he said.
He said that due attention would be given to research on emerging technologies, adding that state-of-the-art products and funds would be given to youth besides business opportunities and training.
“The Lahore TechnoPolis will get all the benefits under the Special Technology Zone Act (STZA), and it will also get tax exemption for 10 years. The Zone Enterprises will get exemption from property tax and PRA services tax for 10 years. This project will be a game changer for the new generation,” he said.
The delegation included Knowledge Park Chairman Jamal Ansari, Rapid Silicon Chief Executive Officer Naveed Sharwani, IT University Vice Chancellor Sarfraz Khurshid and Humayun Qayyum.
