The Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed a contempt of court petition issued against former three-time prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif in 2018 for non compliance on Wednesday.
According to reports, a resident filed a petition in the IHC against Nawaz Sharif in 2018 over his anti-judiciary remarks after being disqualified.
The contempt of court petition was filed by a local citizen Adnan Iqbal.
Advocating for his plea, the petitioner argued that the PML-N leader consistently disparaged the judiciary and other state institutions in the media. The petitioner urged the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the former prime minister.
With no representation from the petitioner in court, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq dismissed the petition due to non-compliance. It’s important to highlight that a contempt of court petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court against Nawaz Sharif for his anti-judiciary speeches in 2018.
The court, which scheduled the hearing for today, addressed a five-year-old petition. The registrar’s office had issued a cause list to schedule the case.
Notably, Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan last month after a self-imposed exile of four years.
