In the latest escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip, more than 100 Palestinians were killed and many others injured in overnight air and land attacks by Israel.
The official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, reported the grim toll as Israel’s conflict with the besieged enclave reached its 100th day. The attacks targeted various areas, with a particularly devastating strike on a residential building in Gaza City’s Al-Daraj neighborhood, claiming 50 lives.
Apart from this, artillery shelling in the Sabra and Al-Zeitoun neighborhoods resulted in five deaths and ten injuries. Israel’s artillery and navy also attacked homes in Tal Al-Hawa and Sheikh Ajleen. In the central Gaza Strip, missiles hit homes in Al-Sawarha, Al-Maghazi, and Al-Bureij, causing additional casualties. Khan Younis witnessed over 30 Palestinians, including children and women, killed in Israeli bombings on houses.
The relentless Israeli assault comes in response to a cross-border attack by a Palestinian resistance group, which Israel claims killed 1,200 people. Since then, over 23,843 Palestinians, mainly women and children, have been killed, and 60,317 injured.
Gaza faces severe humanitarian crises, with 85% of the population internally displaced, acute shortages of essentials, and 60% of infrastructure damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
Simultaneously, in the occupied West Bank, Israeli military raids in the past 100 days led to the arrest of 5,875 Palestinians, including 335 children and 200 women.
More than 2,856 Palestinians are held without trial under Israel’s administrative detention policy, bringing the total number of administrative detainees to over 3,290. Currently, at least 8,800 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, according to prisoners’ affairs groups.
