In an appeal to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), K-Electric requested an Rs2.34 increase in the power rate due to the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for June.
The electricity utility has requested a Rs2.34/unit hike in the power cost for Karachi residents. On July 26, the NEPRA will hold a hearing on the K-Electric application.
If the petition is granted, Karachi consumers will face an additional burden of Rs4.39 billion.
The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) increased the base electricity tariff by Rs4.96 per unit for fiscal year 2023-24 last week.
The authority transmitted its recommendation for a basic power tariff increase to the federal government for final approval. After the recommended increase, the base power cost will rise from Rs24.82 per unit to Rs29.78 per unit.
According to a NEPRA representative, the federal cabinet will decide whether the electricity tariff increase would be phased in or not.
