For the first time, Karachi’s Port Qasim handled a container-laden cargo vessel measuring 355 meters. The ship was berthed at the terminal of the private corporation DP World, and the unloading operation is already in progress.
The Singaporean vessel APL LE HARVE, carrying import orders from around the country, arrived at Port Qasim Karachi today following a two-day journey from Jeddah.
The cargo vessel will depart for India once the unloading process is completed, according to the port administration.
The largest container-laden ship in Pakistani history docked at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in December 2019.
The ship, named ‘Cosco Belgium,’ was a massive cargo vessel docked at Karachi Port’s South Wharf sector.
With a length overall (LOA) of 366 meters, the highest gross registered tonnage (GRT) of 153,666 metric tonnes, and a maximum beam of 51.20 meters, it was the largest vessel handled for the first time in Karachi Port.
At 8:10 p.m. Pakistan time, the Hong Kong flag vessel arrived alongside SAPT-3 berths under the personal direction and supervision of Deputy Conservator KPT Captain Asif Ahmed Saeed Tauni, while observing all safety precautions.
KPT had previously handled vessels of LOAs of 354.24 meters, GRTs of 128,929 metric tonnes, and beams of 45.6 meters.
