The newly-elected members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly are poised to be sworn in as provincial legislators today in the inaugural session chaired by Speaker Mushtaq Ghani.
Although the session was slated to commence at 11 am, it has yet to begin.
This development follows the KP governor’s summoning of the assembly session as per clause (a) of Article 109 of the Constitution, specifically for the “taking of oath by its members,” as well as for the election and swearing-in of the speaker and deputy speaker. Additionally, the session will include the election of the province’s chief minister, with proceedings expected to span over the upcoming days.
A total of 113 newly-elected members representing the general seats will participate in the oath-taking ceremony within the 145-member house. Notably, the status of the 30 reserved seats—26 allocated for women and four for minorities—remains pending, as the matter is currently under review by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
