The Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, as well as the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have pledged by restoring and conserving the Gandhara civilization’s art and Buddhist cultural specimens to turn the province into a tourism destination.
“Peshawar Museum is known for its collection of Buddhist artwork originating from the ancient Gandhara region,” a department official told the Associated Press of Pakistan.
Peshawar Museum, he added, boasts one of the world’s greatest and most comprehensive collections of Gandhara art from the Buddhist period, as well as one of the world’s largest collections of Buddhist items.
He went on to say that the museum has the world’s biggest collection of Gautama Buddha statues, Buddhist stone sculptures, terracotta figures, and other Buddhist specimens.
