The Punjab School Education Department is finally ready to inaugurate Lahore’s first government school for transgender students.
The initial version of the school’s strategy was developed in March of this year. It was intended to transform the Government Girls High School in Barkat Market into a transgender-only institution.
210 transgender kids were supposed to enroll when it first opened at the start of October. It was also announced that the school will be multi-class.
Due to a shortage of money in addition to the District Education Authority’s reported inefficiency, the project was delayed while the conversion of the public school was incomplete.
In Multan, Bahawalpur, and DG Khan, there are currently three transgender schools open, where students are educated from 2 to 5 p.m. in existing education systems. The creation of a transgender-only school in the provincial capital, however, was a unique initiative.
Finally, the SED has said that it will inaugurate the school on Wednesday (today), at Government Girls High School, Barkat Market, Garden Town.
