The National Assembly on Thursday passed ‘The Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2022’ aimed at increasing the number of existing Union Councils in Islamabad and direct election of the mayor.
To accommodate the existing population of the federal capital, there would be 125 Union Councils in the Islamabad Capital Territory as a result of the amendments. The voters will directly elect the mayor and deputy mayor as joint candidates.
Zeb Jaffer, Parliamentary Secretary for Federal Education and Professional Training responded to a Calling Attention Motion made by Aliya Kamran and others by guaranteeing the House that laptops will also be provided to students in Madaris and the former FATA in the same way that they are given to university students.
