On Monday night, a special plane carrying the body of the late former military ruler Pervez Musharraf and his family arrived at Karachi airport. The flight was facilitated by the Foreign Office and originated from Dubai. The funeral of Mr. Musharraf took place in Malir cantonment on Tuesday.
The casket of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf was escorted by a large Military Police force to the Combined Military Hospital in Malir Cantt. His funeral prayers were held at the Polo Ground at 1:45 pm and he was later laid to rest at the Army Graveyard near Chanesar Goth. Although there was no official announcement, a close associate confirmed that the burial would be carried out with full state and military honors.
“He would be buried in the military graveyard under state protocol with full military honors,” said Tahir Hussain, who has been Musharraf’s spokesman in Karachi since the ex-ruler formed a party, the APML, in Oct 2010.
The old terminal at Karachi Airport was sealed off by MP workers who had been captured by Pakistan Rangers hours before the jet touched down. On the way to the cantonment, there was also noticeable heavy security.
An earlier NOC for the repatriation of the body of the former military ruler was issued by the Pakistani consulate general in Dubai.
