Several celebrities were spotted at former prime minister Imran Khan’s political rally in Karachi on Saturday, the second one organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party since his ouster from power last week.
Pakistan’s showbiz personalities have often thrown their weight behind the former premier by raising funds for his cancer hospital and attending public events.
Khan has blamed his ouster on the United States, accusing it of orchestrating the no-confidence campaign against him. He has also demanded early elections and vowed to take his protest demonstrations across the country until his demand is met.
The former prime minister’s political rally in Karachi attracted thousands of people, among them some familiar faces from the showbiz industry who posted their pictures on various social media platforms.
Model and actress Syra Yousuf was spotted at the rally, holding up the Pakistan flag against the backdrop of the grand mausoleum of the country’s founding father Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
“There is no power on earth that can undo Pakistan,” she wrote in her Twitter post, quoting Jinnah.
Actor and singer Haroon Shahid, who also participated in the rally, posted a picture with his family in which he can be seen at the venue smiling with his wife and children.
Pakistani actor, model and plastic surgeon Fahad Mirza showed up to attend the event, carrying the national flag with him. He was also accompanied by his wife and actress Sarwat Gilani.
Popular actor Feroze Khan shared videos and pictures of the event on Instagram Stories, showing him on the stage.
Actress Tara Mahmood, daughter of Shafqat Mehmood, a former federal minister in Khan’s cabinet, also attended the rally.
“History in the making,” she exclaimed. “Let’s be part of the change.”
