The Lahore High Court (LHC) is hearing a challenge against the recent increase in the fee for Light Transport Vehicle (LTV) driving licenses.
Applicant Syed Aftab Shah has filed a plea stating that the Punjab government raised the LTV license fee from Rs950 to Rs10,000, which is deemed excessively burdensome for drivers. Seeking the nullification of this fee hike, the applicant has approached the LHC.
Following the initial hearing, LHC Justice Shahid Karim has issued notices to the Punjab home secretary, Inspector General (IG), and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), requesting responses to the plea. It’s important to note that the Punjab caretaker cabinet approved a significant increase in the driving license fee, impacting citizens, including those in Lahore and Rawalpindi, who are now required to pay an annual fee for the LTV license.
