The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday ordered the adoption of Urdu as an official language in government institutes.
Judge Raza Qureshi accepted the petition to make Urdu the official language in government institutions, according to the information.
The court ordered the government to carry out its directions within a month. Urdu has not been recognized as a national language, despite the strict directives from the supreme court.
Following the execution of the court orders, the government is required to submit a report to the deputy registrar’s office; otherwise, contempt of court proceedings may be pursued.
SC slams Govt for failing to implement URDU as an official language
The supreme court ordered that Urdu become the official language in all government institutions, however the SC decisions were not carried out, according to the LHC complaint.
Hereby. All government institutions must use Urdu as their official language, under LHC’s directive.
The federal government was criticised by the Supreme Court (SC) earlier in 2021 for failing to adopt Urdu as the national language despite passing six years.
The comments were made by a three-member SC panel hearing a contempt case against the federal government for refusing to make Urdu the official language, which was presided over by Justice Umar Atta Bandial, who was then acting chief justice of Pakistan (CJP).
