Renowned Pakistani actress Mahira Khan was honored in the UK Parliament for her exceptional contributions to cinema, cultural exchange, and women’s empowerment.
The ceremony, hosted by British MP Afzal Khan at the House of Commons, celebrated Mahira’s impactful role as a cultural ambassador. Parliamentarians from various parties acknowledged her ability to bridge cultures through film, inspiring audiences globally, especially women.
MP Afzal Khan praised Mahira’s talent and poise, calling her an inspiration not only for Pakistani women but for women worldwide. “She brings powerful stories to life, captivating international audiences and promoting cultural understanding,” he said.
Dr. Sarah Naeem, speaking at the event, commended Mahira’s efforts toward women’s empowerment. “Mahira Khan has shown women across the globe how to pursue their dreams with resilience and strength,” she said. Dr. Naeem added that Mahira’s recognition as the first Pakistani actress to be honored in the British Parliament was made possible through the support of MP Afzal Khan, the Labor Asians Society, and Samara Events UK.
Reflecting on her journey, Mahira spoke of her roots, growing up in a Pashtun family in Karachi and attending Foundation Public School before studying in the United States at Santa Monica College and the University of Southern California. She highlighted her parents’ emphasis on education and equality, values she cherishes.
Expressing her gratitude, Mahira acknowledged the mentors, directors, teachers, and friends who supported her. “I have stood on the shoulders of incredible mentors, directors, fans, and friends who made everything possible,” she said.
