Meesha Shafi, the famous singer and actress, recently visited Pakistan to record a song for Coke Studio. However, she opted to return to Canada quickly, hence avoiding her court hearing.
Meesha Shafi was served a defamation lawsuit by singer-actor Ali Zafar and she failed to arrive in court once again by returning to Canada 2 days before the hearing. Meesha Shafi had earlier accused Ali Zafar of sexually harassing her, in what was called the Pakistani version of the #MeToo movement, a movement that took the world by storm in 2018. Ali Zafar had responded by filing a defamation lawsuit in the Lahore high court in June 2018, 2 months after Meesha’s allegations.
Meesha’s absence didn’t cause much harm to her, however. Iffat Omar, a key witness in the case, appeared in the Lahore high court and managed to persuade the court to adjourn the hearing till December 12.
