Pakistani left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir has broken Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s record for the most maiden overs bowled by a fast bowler in Twenty20 internationals (T20s). Amir accomplished this milestone while playing for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024.
In a crucial match against the Barbados Royals on Thursday, Amir played a key role in defending a target of 177 runs. He opened the bowling for the Falcons with a maiden over, conceding only a leg-bye to the aggressive Rakheem Cornwall. This brought Amir’s career total to 25 maiden overs in T20s, surpassing the previous record of 24 held by India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Amir now holds the third spot on the all-time list for most maiden overs in T20 cricket, trailing only West Indies’ Sunil Narine (30) and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan (26). Among fast bowlers, Amir stands at the top, ahead of both Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. This achievement cements Amir’s reputation as one of the finest bowlers in T20 cricket.
