The former Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman, set the minimum amount of Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) at Rs. 170 per individual.
Fitrana is a charity requirement that the affluent must pay to the needy before Eid-ul-Fitr.
An adult Muslim who is mature (baligh), sane, conscious, financially competent, and has food in excess on the eve of Eid al-Fitr is obligated to pay Zakat al-Fitr, according to Islamic Shariah.
In addition, the head of the household might pay Zakat al-Fitr for his or her dependents, such as children, servants, and other relatives.
A basket of products, such as flour, dates, raisins, cheese, and barley, can be used to calculate the sacred charity rate per person.
The minimal amount was calculated based on the price of flour, which is Rs. 170 for 2 kg, according to Mufti Muneeb. Similarly, the sum based on barley and date prices is Rs. 480 and Rs. 1,600, respectively. The payment is Rs. 2,800 per head for raisins, but Rs. 2,200 per head for second-class raisins.
The Fidya amount, on the other hand, has been fixed at Rs. 10,200 for wheat, Rs. 28,800 for barley, Rs. 96,000 for dates, and Rs. 168,000 for raisins, all of which must be paid within 30 days. Fidya is the sum that must be given to compensate for people who are unable to fast during Ramadan owing to a permanent illness and are unable to fast later in the year to make up for it.
