Former PTI leader and ex-federal minister, Fawad Chaudhry, was apprehended by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday in connection with a corruption case. The arrest took place at Adiala Jail, following the issuance of an arrest warrant by NAB Chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt.
The arrest warrant cited allegations of corruption against the former information minister, who is slated to appear before the court for further proceedings. This development follows Fawad Chaudhry’s departure from PTI after the May 9 violence.
In the previous month, he was reportedly taken into custody from his residence in Islamabad, as confirmed by his wife, Hiba Chaudhry, who stated that he was then transported to an undisclosed location.
This arrest is not the first legal entanglement for Fawad Chaudhry. In January, he was detained for making public threats against the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Subsequently, in June, the former PTI leader issued an apology to the electoral watchdog, acknowledging the use of “intemperate” language directed at the ECP and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja.
In another notable event, Fawad Chaudhry, in June of the same year, participated in the launch of the Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), led by former PTI member Jahangir Tareen. The arrest comes as the latest development in the legal and political challenges faced by Fawad Chaudhry, adding to the complexities surrounding his political career.
