The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) has distributed the new Smart National Identity Card to Pakistanis. The Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) is the most basic form of identification for each Pakistani citizen, as it certifies an individual’s nationality and personal information.
It is a basic requirement for access to government and private services such as voting, opening bank accounts, obtaining a passport, and participating in social welfare programmes, while for property transactions and vehicle registration, everyone must carry a valid CNIC as part of the documentation process.
NADRA’s new smart ID card has biometric features and security safeguards to assist in preventing identity theft, fraud, and misuse of personal information. These cards contain biometric data and are used to identify all citizens.
People used to avoid visiting NADRA offices, but with new rules and digital innovation, they can now apply for their ID cards without visiting NADRA offices.
