In order to recognise the anniversary of Nakba, a special event was held at the UN forum. In this Pakistan re-affirmed it’s “deepest” solidarity with the people of Palestine. Ambassador Usman Jadoon, deputy permanent representative of Pakistan to UN was present there. He stated, “We empathize with profound pain of displacement and oppression they (Palestinians) endure”. In this event of remembering, Senegalese Ambassador Cheikh Niang, stated that “The Nakba of 1948 and today’s Nakba in Gaza are not two separate events.”
This year marks the 76th anniversary of the 1948 Nakba. The refugee crisis from decades ago still persists while the oppression continues to accelerate. In accordance with this, Ambassador Niang opened a panel discussion titled “1948-2024: The Ongoing Palestinian Nakba”. “The Nakba, thus, is an ongoing process affecting the Palestinian people over generations” stated the ambassador. Jadoon affirmed solidarity, stating that the Nakba’s execution persists, denying Palestinians self-determination under prolonged, brutal foreign occupation for 57 years.
“Pakistan reiterates its call for an immediate, unconditional and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza; unrestricted humanitarian supplies and holding Israel accountable for its crimes.” Proposing an exact resolution, Jadoon added, “We reaffirm our solidarity with the people of Palestine and call for the establishment of a viable, independent and contiguous State of Palestine on the basis of internationally agreed parameters of the pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds al Sharif as its capital.
