The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has given temporary protection from the arrest of Mian Nawaz Sharif the Leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) until October 24 in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases.
Nawaz Sharif, who went to London for medical reasons during his seven-year jail sentence in 2019, is currently in Saudi Arabia. He plans to return to Pakistan via Dubai on October 21. He asked the IHC to prevent his arrest so that he could appear in court.
The IHC has granted his request and ordered that he not be arrested upon his return on October 21.
On the same day, a different court suspended a permanent arrest warrant for Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana case. The court suspended the warrant until October 24, and it will be reinstated if he doesn’t show up in court on that day.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor did not oppose this decision in the court hearing.
