On Thursday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announced a tariff increase of Rs 4.12 per unit for consumers, citing fuel adjustment charges for November 2023.
Consumers will bear additional charges in January 2024, excluding Lifeline and K-Electric (KE) customers. The NEPRA approved a Rs 1.72 per unit hike for KE consumers for the third quarter of the previous financial year.
The overall adjustment includes Rs 1.25 per unit for January to March 2023 and Rs 0.47 per unit for October to December 2022. This tariff adjustment aims to maintain uniform electricity rates nationwide, as approved at the caretaker government’s request.
The increase does not affect Lifeline and KE consumers. The official notification has been sent to the federal government, with Karachi residents expected to see higher bills from January to March 2024.
