The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has taken major steps to start power generation from solid waste and ordered the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) to fix the quota for renewable energy.
The NTDC was given orders by the NEPRA to set the quota for producing power from solid waste and gather data from interested parties.
The authorities have been given the task of gathering information on municipal solid trash from the relevant federal and provincial entities and developing a plan for electricity generation utilizing contemporary technologies.
The NTDC will prepare suggestions for adding solid waste power generation to the National Grid in accordance with the authority’s instructions. A representative for the authority claimed in a statement that municipal waste is becoming a major problem in the nation and is posing environmental and health risks.
It was discovered that the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) will increase the country’s power generation capacity by 2030 by adding up to 10,000 MW of affordable, clean, and green hydel electricity.
As a result, the hydel generation will increase from 9,500 MW to around 20,000 MW. Additionally, the country’s total water storage capacity will increase by an additional 12 MAF. WAPDA will significantly contribute to Pakistan’s economic stability and social advancement through this.
According to a press release, the Chairman of WAPDA Engineer Lt Gen (Retd) Sajjad Ghani made this statement while addressing the first meeting of the general managers and project directors.
The two-day conference was convened at WAPDA House to examine the status of the ongoing projects and to address the problems in order to determine the best course of action for their successful implementation.
Member finance, member water, member power, general managers, and project directors from across the country attended the conference.
