The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) was informed on Wednesday about the discovery of new natural gas reserves in Sindh, as announced by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
According to the details, OGDCL made the discovery at the Shahu-1 well, located in Khairpur district, Sindh. The discovery was made in the Sawan South Block’s lower Goru B Reservoir Sand and was officially shared through a notice to the PSX.
OGDCL expressed satisfaction with the discovery, which is expected to yield approximately 10 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas, with a Wellhead Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of around 4,100 pounds per square inch (psig).
The project is a joint venture involving OGDCL (20% working interest), United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) as the operator (75%), Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL) (2.5%), and Sindh Energy Holding Limited (SEHL) (2.5%).
The Shahu-1 well, spudded on August 18, 2024, reached a depth of 12,675 feet. OGDCL anticipates that this discovery will boost Pakistan’s energy security by harnessing domestic resources, contributing to the nation’s hydrocarbon reserves, and reducing risks for future exploration in the Sawan South Block.
