Friday marked the commencement of the first session of the Punjab Assembly, where the recently elected lawmakers took their oaths of office.
Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman had summoned the assembly session on Thursday, citing Article 109 read with Article 130(2) of the 1973 Constitution. In this session, Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan administered the oath to the recently elected Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs).

Following the oath-taking, the planned election process for the positions of Punjab Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker was postponed to Saturday, as announced during the session today.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) holds a substantial position with 137 seats in the Punjab Assembly. Factoring in the inclusion of 22 independents aligning with the party and accounting for reserved seats, the PML-N has achieved a simple majority in the 186-seat assembly.
