Contrary to circulating rumors, reliable sources have dismissed claims of former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed’s departure from Pakistan, emphasizing that he remains firmly rooted in his commitment to the country.
These speculations emerged following reports in local media suggesting that Sarfaraz had left Pakistan due to a sense of disillusionment and despair about his professional future.
Currently residing in London with his family, Sarfaraz is expected to return home shortly. His wife resides in London, and his son is pursuing education in England. The cricketer is set to lead the Quetta Gladiators in the upcoming Pakistan Super League season nine and is enthusiastic about participating in domestic cricket upon his return to the country.
Despite being dropped from the national team after the first Test of the recent Australia series, Sarfaraz is determined to make a comeback. Known for his prowess as a right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, he gained prominence by captaining Pakistan’s Under-19 team to victory in the 2006 World Cup.
Sarfaraz’s illustrious career includes being the first Pakistan captain since the legendary Imran Khan to secure a 50-over world title. Taking charge of the ODI team in February 2017, he faced initial challenges, including a heavy loss to India in the Champions Trophy. However, his leadership saw a remarkable turnaround, with Pakistan defeating South Africa, Sri Lanka, and England before clinching the trophy by triumphing over India in the final.
Despite his successful tenure, Sarfaraz faced a dip in personal form, leading to his removal as captain in all three formats and subsequent exclusion from the team in October 2019. Eager to stage a comeback, Sarfaraz remains resilient in his pursuit of contributing to Pakistani cricket.
