The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have launched a temporary registration service for mobile phones imported from other countries. According to the system, you can use your phone for 120 days without paying PTA tax.
This new approach is intended to make it easier for foreign nationals to visit Pakistan. Among those in attendance were Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PTA Chairman Maj Gen (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, Federal Minister IT & Telecom Syed Aminul Haque, and others.
Requirements
In order to use this service, applicants must submit the following information:
- Passport number.
- Mobile SIM card in their name.
- Arrival and departure dates.
- IMEI number of the device.
The mobile phone will no longer be functioning on the local network service after 120 days.
How the System Works
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) collaborate on this new service, exchanging immigration data and validating the applicant’s arrival date via FIA IBMS. When an applicant applies for this service, immigration officials enter their information into their system and activate their phones.
The project shows the government’s efforts to assist Pakistanis living abroad and other international nationals.
