Team NUST Airworks is an undergraduate student team, based in NUST-PNEC, that designs and manufactures fully autonomous drones. The team has been competing on a national and international stage since 2016.
Since 2018, the team has been representing Pakistan at the U.K’s IMechE UAS Challenge, one of the most prestigious university-level drone competitions internationally. The team has won 9 awards in 3 years, including the titles:
- Highest Placed New Entrant, 2018
- Grand Champions, 2019
- Runner Up, 2021
- It was also a part of a famous McDonald’s campaign
- McDonald’s PK: The Ingredients for Success
The team gained widespread acknowledgment upon returning to Pakistan. We were welcomed by the honorable Governor of Sindh Mr. Imran Ismail and financially rewarded by him.

This year, the team is aiming to compete in two categories at Turkey’s TeknoFest 2022, to develop an autonomous drone swarm fleet.
In the International free Mission UAV competition where the team got to choose what mission their UAV will perform, There team developed a swarm of drone fleet that will be capable of monitoring and tracking people as well as payload delivery.
In the International Fixed mission category, we have designed a fixed-wing UAV with capabilities of autonomous flight, navigation, drop zone identification, and payload delivery.
The primary focus of our project is to make it as economically feasible as possible and take Pakistan a step ahead in the field of drone technology.
