In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral trade and financial collaborations, Pakistan and Ethiopia have expressed a strong commitment to further strengthening their relationship. This understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, and the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan, Jemal Beker Abdula, held in Islamabad today.

The Finance Minister warmly welcomed the Ethiopian Ambassador and provided an extensive overview of the ongoing economic reforms in Pakistan. He emphasized that these reforms are part of a comprehensive home-grown agenda aimed at achieving sustainable economic stability. Highlighting recent positive developments, the Minister pointed to improvements in foreign exchange reserves, state-owned enterprise (SOE) reforms, and advancements in the power sector. He noted that these achievements have been recognized by international rating agencies, which have acknowledged Pakistan’s improving economic stability as a result of the government’s strategic decisions.

Minister Aurangzeb also mentioned that the country’s economic outlook has significantly improved, as confirmed by recent reports from Fitch. He expressed the government’s ongoing commitment to achieving long-term economic sustainability.

Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula praised Pakistan’s macroeconomic stability and shared insights on Ethiopia’s similar approach to implementing home-grown economic reforms. He detailed Ethiopia’s initiatives inspired by Pakistan’s experience, particularly in stabilizing its currency and fostering economic resilience. The Ambassador proposed exploring educational cooperation, specifically promoting student exchange and scholarship programs. This initiative aims to provide Ethiopian students with opportunities to study in Pakistan, thereby fostering educational and cultural ties between the two nations.

In response, the Finance Minister agreed on the importance of fostering deeper ties between Pakistan and Ethiopia. He welcomed the proposed collaborations, emphasizing that such initiatives would not only enhance bilateral relations but also contribute to mutual growth and development.

The meeting concluded with both parties reiterating their commitment to work closely together to strengthen their economic and cultural bonds, setting a promising trajectory for future cooperation.
