The damaged Bahrain bridge in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which was destroyed by the raging floods last month, has been repaired by the Pakistan Army Engineering Corps.
As directed by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa, it has also intensified its efforts to rebuild the province’s destroyed infrastructure.
The reopening of the bridge was greatly expected by the locals who had been unable to travel to other parts of the area.
The town and the main Swat district, which includes Mingora and Khwazakhela, are connected by the Bahrain bridge. It was destroyed by the floods, which also separated Bahrain into two distinct areas and cut it off from the surrounding areas.
During his visit to Swat on August 30, COAS Bajwa promised to have the bridge restored within a week.
After several hotels were destroyed by the devastating monsoon floods, he had also pushed for legal action to be taken against the officials who had permitted building on the river banks in Swat.
The military had warned the populace from visiting Swat and the surrounding districts because of the severe flash floods brought on by the monsoon rains.
