The Caretaker Federal Government of Pakistan has opted to ban the import of wheat, as confirmed by sources. The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) made this decision in light of stable flour prices within the country and sufficient wheat reserves.
Government insiders revealed that Pakistan possesses an abundant supply of wheat to meet its domestic requirements. The Ministry of National Food Security provided a briefing on wheat supply to the ECC, which lauded the ministry’s efforts in this regard.
This decision aligns with the ECC’s assessment of the country’s wheat situation, where it sees no immediate need for state-level wheat imports. In a related development, the ECC recently approved a Technical Supplementary Grant of 7.15 billion rupees for Federal Education and Professional Training. Additionally, the committee granted approval for a Technical Supplementary Grant of four billion rupees for the 7th Population and Housing Census.
