Pakistan has launched a new service through which citizens can send donations for Turkiye’s and Syria’s earthquake victims via SMS, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced on Monday.
Officials from Turkey and Syria have verified that more than 46,000 people have died as a result of the terrible 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck sections of those countries on February 6. The Turkiye was visited by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last week to show support for the victims. He also established a relief fund and pledged to support Turkiye in its time of need.
The PMO announced Pakistan’s “major step” for the earthquake victims in both countries in a press release. The Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Turkiye and Syria’s Earthquake Victims now accepts donations by SMS, according to the statement.
According to the PMO, anybody can make a $10 donation by texting the word FUND to 9977. The donations would be added right away to the premier’s disaster relief fund, it was said.
President Erdogan thanked the Pakistani premier for his “strong and consistent support” in the wake of the tragedy when Sharif visited Turkiye.
Sharif also went to the country’s earthquake-affected regions and chatted with catastrophe victims to reassure them that Pakistan will not desert Turkiye.
