The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced plans to upgrade three major cricket venues in the country ahead of hosting a major international tournament next year, following discussions with an International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation in Lahore.
Preparations are underway for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a significant international cricket event often dubbed the mini-World Cup. This tournament features the top eight one-day international (ODI) teams globally, offering a condensed series of matches compared to the Cricket World Cup.
Originally biennial, the ICC Champions Trophy transitioned to a quadrennial schedule from 2009, aligning with the World Cup timetable.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed delight at Pakistan’s hosting opportunity, emphasizing the importance of the tournament for both the board and the country’s cricket enthusiasts. Naqvi pledged top-tier facilities befitting the event’s historic significance.
“I am pleased to announce that the PCB will enhance three major venues across the country well ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025,” Naqvi stated. “We are committed to ensuring this tournament is a resounding success and a memorable experience for all involved.”
Naqvi convened with the ICC delegation, currently assessing venues and facilities for the tournament.
