On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz jointly launched an Anakra corvette vessel built for the Pakistan Navy as part of a strategic partnership initiative.
PM Sharif, who is in the port city with a delegation of ministers for the inauguration, stated that the launch of PNS Tariq marks a strengthening of defence cooperation between the two Islamic nations.
Starting in 2018, the Turkish project calls for the building of four Corvettes for the Pakistan Navy, two in Pakistan and two in Turkey.
In November of last year, the PM attended the launching ceremony of the third Naval Corvette, PNS Khyber, in Istanbul. PNS Babur and PNS Badar, two Corvettes, were previously launched in Istanbul and Karachi.
