In accordance with vision of PM Imran Khan of uplifting business activity in Pakistan & to enhance freight revenue of Pakistan Railways, a freight train service has been inaugurated that will transport containers from South Asia Pakistan Port to upcountry destinations.
South Asia Pakistan Port is established at the Keamari Groyne basin. The port is expected to handle 3.1 million containers/annum, this huge potential of cargo can be tapped to generate revenue of Rs.6 billion/annum for Pakistan Railways.
Not only will proper rail connectivity expand the port hinterland but it will also drastically curtail the container traffic from the cities, ultimately reducing traffic congestions.
