To reduce the anticipated deficit, Pakistan Railways has raised the prices for Tezgam, a daily express train service.
Following the rains, it was anticipated that railway losses would reach record levels. As a result, the state-owned railway operator has increased the price of a Tezgam economy class ticket from Rawalpindi to Karachi from Rs2,000 to Rs3,500.
While the tariff for the Jafar Express from Rawalpindi to Quetta has increased from Rs2,860 to Rs3,700, the ticket price for the Rawalpindi to Lahore train vehicle has increased from Rs500 to Rs950.
In addition to raising the prices for three trains, Pakistan Railways wants to take back the private-sector-owned Maher Express, Bahauddin Zakaria Express, Farid Express, and Bilal Express.
Unprecedented flooding destroyed rail infrastructure and resulted in significant losses for Pakistan Railways, which forced the suspension of various operations.
Meanwhile, Railways mulled restoration of all the closed sections in Balochistan to overcome financial loss and to facilitate commuters.
