Pakistan Railways has announced a reduction in fares to provide relief to people affected by inflation following a recent decline in petrol and diesel prices.
Revised train fares have been notified for various distances, spanning from 1 kilometre to 200 kilometres. Economy class fares have been slashed by up to 54 percent, while AC (Air-conditioned) class fares have been reduced by 40 percent. Notably, on the Lahore to Rawalpindi route, the minimum economy class fare has been decreased from Rs250 to Rs100.
These adjustments in prices come in the wake of a drop in diesel prices on May 15, with diesel rates decreasing by Rs7.88, leading to a new price of Rs274.08 per litre.
