Pakistan’s overall rule of law score decreased by less than 1% in this year’s Index, and it now ranks 129th out of 140 countries worldwide, rising two positions since last year.
The top performer in the region is Nepal, which is placed 69th out of 140 countries in the World Justice Project’s “Rule of Law” Index 2022, followed by Sri Lanka and India. Pakistan is ranked 5th out of 6 South Asian nations. Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are the three nations in the region with the lowest ratings (138th globally).
The World Justice Project’s original data in 140 countries and jurisdictions shows that adherence to the rule of law fell in 61% of countries this year including Pakistan.
The report says in the last year, 5 out of 6 countries declined in South Asia. Of those 5 countries, 5 had also declined in the previous year.
